I am debating between Chadron S.C. (Nebraska) and Charter Oak S.C. (Connecticut). I am seeking an online Bachelor's degree. I already have an A.A. degree from my local community college. I am an older adult, married with children, and I work full-time. I know this will be a time commitment, but I am ready to plow ahead. I don't want anything TOO difficult or time-consuming. I just want to earn my bachelor's degree to be able to advance in the working world. Psychology, counseling, and family studies would be my points of interest. I have looked and looked at their websites over and over again, but I know that until I enroll somewhere I won't really know what the workload will look like. Does anyone out there have a preference here with these 2 schools, or personal experiences?

If you plan to take classes instead of tests for credit AND Chadron has the degree that interests you then Chadron will be better. If you want flexibility to test out of most of your classes and there's a degree that your really want that Chadron doesn't offer then COSC will be better. However, if COSC is better then the real decision should be between COSC, Thomas Edison and Excelsior. If you're an independent learner and enjoy flexibility any of these three will probably suit you. Most likely, if you're not living in NJ or CT, Excelsior will be the most inexpensive of the three. As a working family guy you might really benefit from the testing for credit degrees, because there are no deadlines and assignments, just test prep. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I am female and I live in California. The reason I stated that I don't want something TOO hard is because after I come home from work I have to do the "mommy" thing along with all the other household duties (cooking, cleaning, kids homework, etc., etc.). I do not plan to test out of anything. I want to go the full course and learn all that I can. I am not in any hurry either, although, I do plan on taking 2 classes every semester and every summer until I finish. Chadron has a brick & mortar campus as well, Charter Oak does not. Not sure if that really matters.

Thank you. The reason that I have narrowed my choices down to Chadron & Charter Oak is because they are both small schools. Charter Oak & Chadron enrollment is around 2,000 students compared to Thomas Edison S.C. with about 30,000 students. I am looking for good customer service as well. Being a distant student, I am sure that I will need to reach out often.

Hi Marcar! I don't think the brick & motar campus means that much. They are both non profit and state colleges. Like everyone has mentioned, COSC you can complete majority of your degree with testing out or transferring in credits from other regionally accredited institutions. Where as Chadron might have a limit on the amount of cleps or transfer credit you bring in. I graduated with my Bachelors at TESC however I was very close on going with COSC instead. If you are not interested in testing out and honestly do not have a time restraint in finishing your degree , Chadron might be for you, if they have a degree program for you.
