So I have my Associates in Criminal Justice from Penn Foster College and all the courses in the program happen to be ACE evaluated. I also took 53 credits from Straighterline that are as well ACE evaluated. Here's my small dilemma. I am probably going to one of the big three, mostly TESC as I did an academic evaluation and will only need a few more credits to complete the degree. I am interested in taking the remaining courses online at my local colleges such as Broward College (Ft Lauderdale) and then transferring them in. Problem is, I was never a student at this colleges and yes I am a Florida resident. But they are pressuring me to take a college placement test. I asked numerous of people at the colleges in advising, and for Broward College they will not accept my ACE credit to fulfill some of the prerequisites. Such as English. "This course requires a valid test score in English. Please contact an Academic Advisor." I can not sign up for the remaining courses unless I pass a prep college English class. I took English 1 with Penn Foster and it is on my ACE transcript. They will not take it due to the fact I am not in the military. I even tried signing up as a non degree student and the same error pops up. The courses I'm signing up for are in the Social Sciences and Humanities to finish my degree at TESC. But I cant register for them due to this rule. I am not interested in CLEP or DSST either. Not only that it's just the fact that I did English already I am not interested in doing it again. I also did English II from Straighterline. Hmm, any ideas on how they can some how accept my ACE credit? ;/

Did you chat with an advisor face to face? I think you just need an overuse if you give them the whole story they will likely grant it. You will probably have this problem every semester. If that doesn't work try the registrar, they can make the allowance too. In the schools defence they deal in plain vanilla and your circumstance is unusual. They won't really know how to handle it....have to use your powers of persuation!

    Hi Rebel!

Lol, I haven't tried chatting with an advisor face to face. I guess before I try this, I should print out unofficial transcripts of ACE and also my academic evaluation at TESC to show them at least another state college accepted it. I'll try the registrar and advising both. Thanks :p

Once they realize your a transient student that knows what they are looking for you will probably be OK. Remember that the "guidance" counselors deal with 18 year old kids all day that typically require a lot of hand holding. Be polite, but persistant.

On the other hand the placement test in English/Writing is no big deal. I suspect you would blow it out of the water easily and that would solve your problem too. My daughter nailed the top 8% of all incoming freshman at 15.

Florida now uses the PERT test I believe, but there is planty of study material out there...if you decide to take it check out the test prep at Seminole State...good stuff. The test should be free, and not take more than an hour or so.

Sounds good. If they still deny and won't accept my ACE courses, I will try to issue an appointment for the dean and explain my situation. If they tell me to take the college placement test I will most likely not take it. I will just get up and try another college and tell them my money is going else where. Maybe Miami Dade College hmmm...

I'll see how this turns out though. Will keep updated! :)
