But Mountain State University is a not-for-profit school and it has the word "state" in its title!!!!
The report states that the University doesn't fulfill three different criteria. However, I think the third one is possibly most important: The University does not meet Criterion Three, “the institution provides evidence of student learning and teaching effectiveness that demonstrates it is fulfilling its educational mission.” In particular, the University lacks sufficient oversight of, and resources to support, its teaching and learning process (Core Component 3.d, “the institution’s learning resources support student learning and effective teaching”)
I do hope they get this straightened out. MSU offers a lot of medical degree programs that really benefit the rural area the school is in. I know a guy who graduated from the MSU physician's assistant program.
It's surprising that this event hasn't raised more of a hullabaloo because it looks so final. It looks like Ashford still has a chance, but does MSU still have a chance?
Hummm Houston police officers hoping to move up in the ranks will no longer be able to count credit hours for "life experience" from West Virginia's Mountain State University, the city attorney said Wednesday, after questions were raised about the number of credits officers were claiming. University's accreditation loss could affect many HPD officers - Houston Chronicle
Ted - I think it's what they DIDN'T do that's the problem. And that's unfortunate. Here's the extract from the NCAHLC PDN: "The Board concluded that the University: has not conducted itself with the integrity expected of an accredited institution with regard to ensuring that its students have accurate and timely information about the status of their academic programs and consistent quality across all academic programs (Criterion One); does not have the human and financial resources expected of an accredited institution (Criterion Two); has not demonstrated that it can plan realistically for the future to anticipate and overcome institutional challenges (Criterion Two); lacks effective governance and administration to provide appropriate oversight over all levels of the institution and to take appropriate action to ensure quality in all its academic programs (Criterion One); and lacks adequate learning support and faculty oversight to assure an effective teaching and learning environment (Criterion Three)."
