    Hi all,

I am moving towards a PhD in the social sciences but want to refresh my research methodology education before I begin applying.

Any recommendations regarding a class -online- that would provide that? Graduate level would be preferred but undergrad would be ok too.

    Many thanks.

    Greetngs,

The University of London offers a module in Research Methods (Educational and Social Research (MRes, Postgraduate Diploma & Postgraduate Certificate) | University of London International Programmes) as part of their courses in Educational and Social Research. The Institute of Education actually does the teaching and it is online using Moodle. You'd need to find an examination nearby to take the exam in the summer. You can also take one other module and earn a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational and Social Research. It looks like an individual 30 credit module is now £1170, so it's not that cheap, but I enjoyed it when I took it.

    Peace,
    db

American Public University American Public University System - Official Site - 877-755-2787 has a number of master's-level programs and each one (e.g. business, pyschology, criminal justice) has a related Research Methods course. I've taken grad courses at APU and they are well-run. Admission is easy and the folks in Admin are helpful. They are reasonably priced too, although I didn't double-check tuition today. I'm planning on taking the Business research-methods class for the same purpose myself...when I get some free time!

Thanks so much db. Not cheap however the cost is offset when someone has taken it and made a good report.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for this. For some reason I had expected I couldn't just take a research class there. Thanks for steering me in this direction -I'll check it out.

I took several grad-level finance classes after my MBA without enrolling for a degree. I think all I had to do was send transcripts and at the time I don't think I even had to pay an enrollment fee, but that might have changed. In any event, the class MGMT501 is the first class in the Managment MA, and I'm sure that there aren't any prereqs besides a BA. MGMT501 says it covers "research methods used by social scientists" so it may fit your needs too.
