    Hi All,

    I'm new here...

I was wondering if anyone could give me a lead to a low residency (+/- 30 days max), or online PhD or Doctoral program in media, film and/or communication?

Cost, at this point, is not an object but I cannot afford to uproot myself or my family for 3-5 years fulltime study.

I have been looking into the EGS program (The European Graduate School - Media and Communication - Graduate & Postgraduate Studies Program)... would anyone have any feedback on this?

I prefer a progressive and non-trad approach as well, if it's not too much to hope for.

    cheers!

A friend of mine did the doctoral program through EGS and liked it. Obviously, I don't know about your specific needs and intentions, but she's a consultant and it seems to lend credibility to her in that role.

    thanks, steve.

Given cost of education outside the Philippines they're even more open to online, distance or low residency options as the faculty member they're giving the study grant to does not suddenly disappear for 3-5 years.

I basically need the PhD for career advancement. The university i currently teach in (Manila) is not overly picky when it comes to the types of accreditations and whatnots a university has as an option for advanced studies. I read in a thread here that EGS was not recognized by some universities in the US or something like that.

EGS generally fits the bill at this point, i just don't want to be invited to present a paper or do a lecture in the US and when they introduce me the audience begins to snicker because of where (or how) I got my degree........... it's not like i'm downloading the diploma from the internet for $9.99

    hmmm... my reply disappeared...

I read in another thread here that there were concerns with EGS's recognition in some US universities and the like...

I need the PhD for career advancement. The institution I teach in (in Manila) is not particularly picky or have criteria with regard to accreditation or recognition levels of universities abroad (as long as they are legitimate and recognized by the appropriate agencies).

I just don't want to be introduced during a forum or conference and the audience begins to snicker when my credentials are read out. I've heard really bad things about the U of Phoenix being a diploma mill... i hope it's not like that

For most Americans the universe ends at the border, so very few here will have heard of it either way. I can't imagine it would be a problem for you.
