I have seen both positive and negative comments regarding Straighterline courses, and I wanted to provide my two cents to anyone who may be considering the English Comp 101 class.

I know everyone's learning needs are different, but I am having a very positive experience so far. I didn't need English Comp, but it has been 20 years since I have written an essay, and I wanted to be prepared for the fall semester. I was never strong in my writing skills, and this course is helping tremendously.

I have seen feedback regarding cheating, etc., but, I guess that depends on each individual and their morals. I am taking my time with each reading, videos, and assignments. I purchased the recommended text. I am taking all of the practice quizzes before going to the next module. I just submitted my first "Fable Narrative" essay, and received wonderful feedback from the online tutor. So far, my experience has been positive and rewarding.

I would recommend that anyone wanting to earn credit and learn how to write an essay (for newbies like me, lol!) to try the course. Now, to choose a topic for the class essay.....:smoker:

    Just my humble opinion.:veryhappy:

That's great to hear, Julie. It is said around here quite often that one gets out of an online class exactly what one puts into it. You are taking your time and doing it right. You are to be congratulated.

    Julie,

I want to add to SurfDoctor's complement by offering one of my own. As you mentioned, you don't need the English Comp class. Though I must say that your ability to communicate is far better than I have seen outside this platform. I work with recent graduates who cannot type an email for the life of them. It's quite frustrating to see how people can graduate, earn a high paying position, yet not have basic competencies in Corporate America. (However, then again, I am only using my company as the example; much to say about the company I work for). I think it goes for most of us here that we support you and enjoy hearing about your inspirational, motivated success. Keep up the wonderful work, and we look forward to more of your achievements and feedback to come!

I always appreciate getting first-hand accounts of how programs/courses/colleges are working for someone in the real world. Thank you for sharing, Julie!

Tom, it's my pleasure! I am enjoying the class very much and am learning a lot. The course offers a tremendous amount of information, if you take the time and follow their outline. Another thing I have appreciated are the SmartThinking tutors. I have seen some complaints where people have stated they revise their essay and submit it, only to have another tutor revise it again. I have submitted 4 assignments, and have had the SAME tutor each time, lol! She has provided a wealth of feedback. Very helpful.

I always seem to find that no matter how good a program is, there is always somebody that hates it and writes a bad review as though it were the worst thing in the world. That's why I don't pay much attention to those reviews.

They use Turnitin now and it's making me crazy! First I couldn't upload the required draft. Finally they fixed their glitch. Now I have turned in 6 papers and not a single one graded. They are sorry but they are training their graders.
Guess I will have another month to pay for SL.
I've enjoyed every other class from SL.

I would contact them and voice your displeasure - specifically about having to pay another month when you could have been done; Seems to me they owe you a month as they are not keeping up their end of the bargain...
