Athabasca University of Alberta (Great White, eh?),
now offers many of their courses under a "challenge for credit"
scheme -- "course credit by examination" to us (American) southerners.

Has anyone had any experience with them?
Does Excelsior College (or anyone else) accept these?

Considering Athabasca is a full member of the "Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada" which is the equivalent of "RA" accreditation. Excelsior should accept it, But ask them to be sure.

Excelsior requires all foreign academic credit to be evaluated by ECE(Educational Credentials Evaluators). I assume this will apply also to the Athabasca courses/exams.

Even still I could not see Excelsior denying credit from a legitimate accredited University, American or Non-American.

Oh yes Great White North we are. Snow is in abundance at this time of year *S*

That was not exactly my point. You will certainly be eligible to get credit for course/exams from any legitimate college/university towards an Excelsior degree. The question however is, how much. There is no guarantee that a course or exam taken at a Canadian university will be of same value in an American degree program as it is in a Canadian degree program. In fact, there are some posters on this board who complained that foreign academic credit is underevaluated in the US and, in particular, ECE was mentioned in this context.

  6. Indeed. As an extreme case, ECE's recommendation for the Heriot-Watt MBA courses is ZERO credits.

    Your right guys

I never took into consideration the "field" of study. For example I am taking a UNISA law degree program yet I bet it would not carry a hill of beans in the U.S. or Britain and in Canada would be seen as only worth two years worth of study. I stand corrected.

Wow! Is that true? I would think a GAAP MBA would qualify for all or most of the business course requirements for a BS in Business. If not it would be interesting to know EC rationalization.
