What is the potencial of Distance learning PhD programs? Are there a lot of people seeking for PhD distance learning programs these days?
Some mid-career professionals have obtained knowledge to a higher degree than some academics. I believe a relatively low cost doctorate (D. Prof. or D.Tech. for example) would be popular. The doctorate could include professional knowledge, publications, and continuous learning (e.g. earn average of 3 semester units per year in area to contribute to ones expertise).
Hi asadradkin. Welcome to Degree Info. Here is some info for new members: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html To answer your question, there are many people going for doctorates via online programs. We talk to people every day who are trying to earn a doctorate and then teach online. It sounds like a great thing, but I'm afraid there are too many people trying to get the shrinking amount of online jobs. I am currently rethinking my online doctorate program because of how common they are becoming. I have come to the conclusion that it will be really difficult to use the doctorate to earn a very good return on the investment of time and money it takes to earn the degree. The growing area in online education that, in my opinion, is likely to continue to grow is in the state college systems. Many state schools are now offering online programs and the number appears to be growing. Unfortunately, state schools are unlikely to hire someone who has earned their doctorate online. It's not impossible, but it is unlikely.
