Well, I guess I will begin with the "shotgun" approach. It may be somewhat non-surgical but it may well reach the result I am seeking more directly.

What can the list members tell me about the University of Hawaii and Vancouver University?

Also, I heard somewhere that the University of So. Africa had a DL program. Can anyone discuss such program if it does indeed exist?

    Thanks In advance

Hi and welcome to the group.

OK, University of Hawaii. I have no personal experience with them, but I'm interested. Obviously they are that state's public university system. Pretty well regarded. (They are a research powerhouse in things like astronomy and Polynesian languages.) They offer several DL degree programs that sound interesting, and a variety of individual classes that are inexpensive and which seem to be offered in a user-friendly format. I've given some thought to taking some of their online classes myself.

Vancouver University? No,no,no,no! Check out Degreeinfo's Search feature and see what others have said about this place. It doesn't seem to be a recognized Canadian university.
It definitely exists. It's possibly the largest and most comprehensive distance learning university on earth. Upside is that it offers programs in virtually every subject at all levels (including doctorate) at absurdly low cost (by US, not African standards). Downside is that their bureaucracy is almost impenetrable for those outside South Africa. What's worse, all of distance education in South Africa is currently undergoing reorganization, and University of South Africa is being merged with several other DL providers and is being renamed Open Learning University of South Africa. That's being accompanied by political power struggles among its top administrators, and according to news reports, lots of confusion.
