Excelsior, Edison or Charter Oaks????

    I am about to embark on testing out for my BS. My last decision is which college to enroll with. Here's the question. Is Excelsior's support and adminstration as bad as some of the posts have indicated? I welcome recommendations and experiences.

    Hello Coralee,

    I get frustrated w/ Excelsior sometimes because they take F O R E V E R to respond to an email. Now, I could probably call them and get ALOT quicker response. However, I would like to be able to email them and expect a reply within a reasonable amount of time.

    Now, the quality of support they give (atleast with me) isn't that bad. They have suggested alot of things towards my degree that I would of never done with out them.

    My experience during the course of two degrees was that, overall, service was exemplary. Generally, credit updates were very timely. On one occasion I received an update before I received the actual test results.

    I found the academic advisors in the Liberal Art program and in the Business degree program, to be both knowledgeable and customer oriented (rather than institutionally or procedurally oriented). Where we disagreed in the assessment of the applicability of (my) submitted credit, or on the interpretation of this or that regulation or rule, I would argue my case formally, in writing, backed by corroborating data and documentation. Much to their credit, they reversed themselves on more than one occasion to my substantial benefit, where I could demonstrate the justness of my cause. They never posed as expert dispensing wisdom to the unwashed, nor did they stand on their dignity when I disagreed with their rulings or assessments. They acted as facilitators, and were primarily concerned in helping me realize my goals, rather than with their own convenience. As a graduate, they have been helpful in providing me with academic letters of recommendation upon request, at no cost.

    I agree that electronic mail to anyone at the college is likely to be "lost". Telephone, fax, and postal mail are the currency of effective of communication, in my experience.

    Good Morning, We are having some problems with TESC that I hope to be able to resolve in the next few days. They don't seem at all customer-student oriented. Since my husband has paid the comprehensive tuition he can take 12 TECEPS and has an unlimited amount of portfolio credit he may attempt. The current plan is to take as many tests as possible quickly and deliver as many portfolios as applicable in the next month. I seriously doubt he is the first person to do this. They don't seem receptive to this idea. He will try connect with another advisor today. This was suggested by Gary in a previous post and make an appointment for some day next week. I will join him in this journey. Have a good day. I'm curious if any one else is having a parallel experience. Hille
