Hi folks! I was at the APU website trying to look up some classes for history and political science, and it looks like they've taken down the links for their masters degrees in history and political science. The only thing they link to now is the new MA in public history. Any ideas on what's going on with that? Are they redoing programs or just getting rid of them? I hope it's the former... -Matt
I don't see the graduate programs for Homeland Security or International Relations either... wonder what's going on over there.
I think there might be too little people enrolled in those subjects that it might not be efficient to offer them any longer? Just a thought of mine...
I, too, have been to American Military University's website www.apus.edu and cannot find either their MA in History programs (Ancient & Classical History, European History, and American History) or the MA in Military History programs (Revolutionary War History, Civil War History, and World War II History). Has anyone else figured out what's up?
As I noted above, these programs are still active - the university is eliminating the option to either complete additional electives or the Capstone in several programs and just offering the Capstone option. MA in Military History - Capstone Option: AMU Degree Program: Master of Arts in Military History-Capstone Option MA in History - Capstone Option: AMU Degree Program: Master of Arts in History-Capstone Option MA in Homeland Security - Capstone Option: AMU Degree Program: Master of Arts in Homeland Security-Capstone Option MA in International Relations and Conflict Resolution-Capstone Option: AMU Degree Program: Master of Arts in International Relations and Conflict Resolution-Capstone Option MA in Political Science-Capstone Option: AMU Degree Program: Master of Arts in Political Science-Capstone Option
Some programs offer either the Capstone or the electives/comps option: The Capstone option requires one elective and the Capstone course: This course is available to graduate students majoring in XXXX. Students may enroll in this course or take the comprehensive examination option. This course will involve a major research paper or thesis option that demonstrates understanding of the program objectives. The research paper and thesis option will demonstrate understanding of social science research methodology. A Research Manual with explicit guidance for the research paper and thesis option will be available. Students electing this option must use this as one of the graduate electives. The student shall select their research paper or thesis option professor from designated APUS faculty. Students should confer with the professor overseeing the research paper or thesis option to determine which exit option is the best for the student’s needs. The electives/comps option requires two elective courses and a separate comprehensive examination. The comprehensive examination option is not very popular, at least in the programs I teach in. It would not be a stretch to think it has been eliminated in some programs due to low interest in the process. It may ease the transition into some sort of Doctoral program at some point in the near future :wiggle:
