    Okay I need some suggestions folks. I am 43 years old and I want to earn an A.A. or A.S. degree in criminal justice. I am former law enforcement officer but I want to get back in. I need at least a A.A. or A.S. degree to get hired with a state agency.

    I want to earn it as fast as possible from an R.A. school. I have spend countless hours on the internet trying to find a school that fits my needs. Every time I find one that seems it will work I read bad reviews which changes my mind.

    So any help would be greatly appreciated very much.

    Welcome to Degree Info, 0311. Here's why your posts don't show up right away: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/35100-new-users-ask-where-did-my-posts-go.html

    You should not put very much faith in those rating boards because they are a magnet for disgruntled students who want to try to hurt the school. There is hardly any online school that is not trash talked on those boards; both the bad schools and the great schools.

    Bruce, another moderator, is our local expert in the CJ field and he will hopefully post to give you some guidance. I am changing the title of this thread to reflect what you are looking for too.

    Liberty University is a great school that offers an AA in CJ. I currently attend Liberty in a different program. Here's a link to the AA in CJ program. Criminal Justice Associate of Arts | Christian Distance Learning | Liberty University Online

    Caveat: It is a decidedly Christian school, so some people may not find the program to their taste.

    Because you have prior experience as a law enforcement officer, you can take advantage of the very liberal portfolio credit approach offered by Thomas Edison State College, which also accepts unlimited credit from transfer, CLEP, DANTES, etc.;

    Thomas Edison State College: Associate in Applied Science (Criminal Justice)

    Look for Steve Levicoff's article on portfolio (also known as "life experience") credit on our home page, and be sure to check out our section on credit by examination. If you have any questions or concerns you want to keep confidential with another law enforcement officer, feel free to PM me.

    You can use that prior license at New Charter Univ. for 30 credit hours. I earned my AS in CJ from them and found it to be a very good program. It's also the cheapest of a lot of options out there.

    Also check out Clovis CC as well, very low price...very good school as well.

    Both of these are good schools. New Charter is DETC and are gearing up to go for RA after they fully relocate to HLC country.
