Many colleges and universities of non-traditional distance learning have sought accreditation form independent sources aside from the more traditional regional accreditation. This provides students with an additional sense of security with so many “diploma-mills” popping up daily on the Internet. One of the main issues confronting students is the variety of accrediting bodies and the lack of a centralized council to oversee them. Here are some of the many accrediting agencies and the schools associated with them:

International Association of Universities & Schools (IAUS), Chadwick University.

International Distance Learning Accreditation (IDLAC), Americus University.

Association Of Private Colleges & Universities (APCU), Academia University.

World Assoc. Of Universities & Colleges (WAUC), Preston, Columbus and Lacrosse Universities.

American Council of Private Colleges & Universities (ACPCU), Hamilton University.

World Organization of Institutes, Colleges & Universities (WOICU), Omega University.

United Congress of Colleges (UCC), Earlcroft University.

Distance Graduation Accrediting Association (DGAA), Capitol and St. Regis Universities.

Association of Distance Learning Programs (ADLP), St. Regis University

International Accreditation Association (IAA), Kingston University.

Due to the confusion that this varied list may cause some would-be students, in their quest of higher learning, I have decided to take this opportunity to announce the formation of my new accrediting agency. It’s sole purpose will be to oversee the many independent bodies regulating the conduct of post-secondary institutions. The new overseer will be:

“Council on Recognition and Accrediting Policies”

    Or better known as: CRAP

Not to be confused with KRAP, the Korean Royal Association of Professors, accreditors of Aardvark University.

We could have CRAP overseen by the Keepers Of Odd Knowledge Society (KOOKS).

You guys should apologize to the legitimate accrediting agencies for such sarcasm, parody and utter non-sense. Let's get on with the business of DL.

I hate to point it out, but generally, CRAP just happens (upon the scene).

However, some report that CRAP developed out of the British Occidental & Western External Learning Society [BOWELS].

    Another new accreditation body

I found there is another accreditation body, the North America Association of Unaccredited Colleges and Universities (http://www.geocities.com/kl3434us/) in the internet. Anyone interested may go and visit their webpage. Most unaccredited univerities always try to cover up they are unaccredited, in terms of RA recognition, by mentioning that they are accredited by some unrecognized agencies. This time, the new accreditation body tells everyone that the universities which they accredited are unaccredited in terms of RA recognition. Can anyone tell me their intention in doing this?

Dormuk asks, "Can anyone tell me their intention in doing this?"

    Yes. In four letter, J - O - K - E.

Not especially funny or well done, IMHO, but definitely intended to be humorous.

I thought it was actually pretty funny--especially Alabama Pacific University, the highest educational institution in Arkansas, building their new campus in Libya.

But I have a strange sense of humor.

Actually, a couple years ago, during the height of the Les Snell (operator of the fraudulent Monticello University) participation in alt.education.distance, I and another person proposed a policy that would require that all schools who were otherwise unaccredited would automatically receive accreditation from the Bureau of Governmental University Standards, and would be required to list their accreditation on their website.

The language required would read "This university has BOGUS accreditation."

The really sad part to that is that, soon after I posted the original message to a.e.d., I received a couple of emails from people (both somewhere in Asia, as I remember) asking how schools could apply for BOGUS accreditation.
