Hello, I'm interested in taking a College Algebra course at LSU Independent Learning but there is a prerequisite requirement. Although I don't have the necessary prerequisite course, I'm very good at math so I don't really need it. I would love to take the CLEP but my school doesn't offer credit for it. Does anyone know if LSU checks to see if the prereqs have actually been taken? Thank you.

I took several courses through LSU's independent program. I am fairly sure they will not check to see if you have taken prerequisites. Each course is independent, hence the name. So these courses are not necessarily connected to a degree program. You take what you need to advance your own goals and you get credit for each course. I did CLEP out of a couple of subjects myself...you can take CLEP at any college and get credit, it doesn't have to be your college specifically. I went to a completely different university to take mine.

My fiancee just signed up for the Probability course and a lady at LSU called her to verify that she had taken calculus 3. She asked which semester the course was taken and that was it. There was no request for proof in the way of transcripts. Just the date the class was taken and the final grade.

Usually for something like College Algebra, if you just tell them you took the prereqs in high school, that is often good enough.

Hi! How difficult did your fiancee find the LSU distance probability course? I am about to sign up for it, but I wanted to hear from other people if it could be easily completed in two months ( i dont work so I have time on my hands) and if the notions can be understood easily. Thanks so much!!
