Instructure Canvas is one of the systems that we are considering post-ANGEL. It is a very impressive system with a great feature set that is putting quite a bit of pressure on the existing LMSs (Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, Sakai). Recently, Canvas won a major RFP for the state of Washington: 34 Washington Colleges Migrate to Cloud-Based LMS -- Campus Technology
Check out this thread just a bit below yours that was made today regarding WNMU changing to the same system..... http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/42107-wnmu-switches-learning-management-system.html
I checked out Canvas when they first announced an open source edition and it seemed pretty well done.
We are starting to use CANVAS now in my summer classes at WNMU. It seems a lot more using friendly and sexier than BlackBoard, which was getting a little long in the tooth. One thing that is immediately noticeable about CANVAS is that it has a lot more user-friendly tools for adding multimedia to the class and to posts and such. In the long run, I believe that will make classes more engaging, interesting, and exciting.
