Does anyone have access to GPA statistics for online grad students? How about campus-based grad students? I'm curious to know if grade inflation is worse in online grad programs.

My understanding is that most schools require grad students to carry a minimum of a 3.0 GPA so I'd guess that it's in the area of 3.5.

That seems right to me too. I'm hoping someone can turn me on some hard stats on that.

Having been both an online instructor and online student (in addition to classroom student), I can say anecdotally that there is possibly more grade inflation online. I have seen somewhere that online grades are higher than for classroom based education, but I can't locate this source at the moment.

Here are some examples from my own experience:

Asbury University 2.39 (classroom) (Did not apply myself):pat:
    FIT (MsC) 3.54 (classroom)
    Cal Coast 3.97 (distance education)
    NCU 4.0 (ABD)(distance education)
Aspen 4.0 to date (distance education)
UFS 67% to date (B+) (Not an online school)

"Recent meta-analytic and traditional reviews of research indicate that the learning outcomes for online students are at least equivalent (Bernard, Abrami, Lou, Borokhovski, Wade, Wozney, Wallet, et al., 2004; Allen, Bourhis, Burrell, & Mabry, 2002; Tallent-Runnels, Thomas, Lan,
Cooper, Ahern, Shaw, et. al., 2006; Zhao, Lei, Yan, Lai, & Tan, 2005) and may be superior to (Means, Toyama, Murphy, Bakia & Jones, 2009) those of classroom students. Means et al. (2009) concluded that the superior performance of online students may be a function of time on task (p. 51). "

If you're looking into conducting your own research, maybe you should take surveys (Use surveymonkey.com) and compose an experiment by survey results. I haven't really searched this area, although I do find it very interesting.

If you're collecting data of different individuals, here is mine:

Rio Hondo College (3.30) B&M, one online class w/ a "C" grade. I didn't like that class :( Major: General Studies

Current: Liberty University (4.0) Online. Only one semester, 12 units thus far. Major: Psychology. 8 more classes to go after this summer.

No, you are not doing my homework for me; this has nothing to do with an assignment. It's just something I have been curious about.

I suspect that it would have to be above 3.0, since that is the minimum graduatable GPA for grad students.

This is mostly true, but there are some programs that do not require a 3.0. I know that seminaries often allow MDiv students to graduate with a lower, but I'm not sure that enough students are below that level to have much of an effect on the aggregate.
