I'm finishing up my BS and looking for a masters program. I'm specifically thinking of a MBA or MS in Health Care Administration. Does anyone have any experience with WGU? I don't quite get how the competency based credit works... would love to hear from anyone who has gone through a program there - undergrad or graduate.

    Thanks!

The competency thing goes like this: you know the material, or you don't. WGU will put a course of study and a set of tasks in front of you for each competency (course) you need to complete. Once you complete the tasks, you move on to the next course in the program. How quickly you move through the program depends on how quickly you can learn the material and demonstrate competency.

Any ideas of what time of tasks? The brochure says tests, paper, etc., but I'm curious as to how extensive these are, etc.

    Thanks

When I took my BS-IT with them, I had a course that required four short papers (2-3 pages each), and two capstone-related courses requiring 12-15 page papers each (technically, writing a proposal then updating it in the second course).

Tests are straightforward. Unless you're in some deep IT concentration like Network Design, these tests will take you a few weeks to study for.

Thanks for the info. I've been working in Heathcare Administation for over 25 years, so I'm thinking that competency based may be the way for me to go. My bosses have told me that I already have the MBA, just not the paper.
