I am currently looking to enlist in the military. The problem is, while I was a teenager I made a few stupid mistakes and did not graduate high school. I have since obtained my GED. The recruiter informed me that in order to enlist with a GED, I must have at least 15 college credits. Unfortunately for me the cost of college is part of the reason I am looking to enlist. I have taken several of the FEMA courses however, and am currently at 16 credits.

TESC Credit Banking charges $497 for 1-60 credits for applicants who are not already in the military. FCC charges $77 * 16 = $1232

But of these options are well outside of my budget. So, my question is this, will the military accept raw FEMA credit for the purpose of enlistment? If not, is there a cheaper option anywhere?

Charter Oak State College will trascribt them directly in their credit registry program. i believe that the cost is somewhere around $400 total. You might as well do more FEMA courses and maximize your dollars.

The least expensive option for you for establishing a credit bank is through Excelsior College at $270.

OneTranscript for credit consolidation - excelsior.edu

But Excelsior does not accept FEMA...

If I were advising someone how to get 15 credits cheap:

    1. Analyzing and Interpreting Lit CLEP (6 credits)

    2. Either College Composition Modular or College Mathematics (6 credits - whatever your strongest subject is )

    3. Intro to Computers DSST (3 credits)

Exams would set you back $300 + $270 for the Excelsior Transcript.

    Good luck!

See if you can stripes for college credits! I got in as an E-3 with 30 college credits 25 years ago. I wonder if the program is still in existence. Yeah, you may complain about $497 but if you get a stripe and enter as an E-2 or E-3 you'll pay that back in a couple of months with the added pay raise.

Another option is to see if the National Guard will take you with a GED and then you get a GI Bill to use immediately for college
