    Hi all,

After hours of searching and posting about specific programmes, I was thinking that it might be more useful to post what I'm looking for and see if one of the many minds on this board has already come across such a programme...

I live in BC, Canada and am looking for doctoral programme. I'm a clinical social worker (MSW) and hold professional registration for same. I'm hoping to find a DL doctoral programme in a social science field that will allow me to develop my clinical skills as well as my supervisory skills. But I will take one or the other if needed.

I am happy to attend intensives - but can't commit to something monthly.

I would love an RA school for tax purposes but have also considered some like CCU because I do have registration in my province already and it seems like a good school (or am I missing something?).

I am looking at overseas schools and have ideas about how I can achieve my goals through a strictly research based PhD/DSW/PsyD/whatever... so if it's not a taught programme, I can make it work (I have a research topic that really excites me and ties my interests together).

I don't intend to teach. This is for potential progression in my organization/field and personal growth.

    The sticky spots:

    Finances.

    Time.

I'm looking for a part time programme and preferably one that won't cost too much (isn't everyone?)

I emailed re:UNISA and was told that I couldn't even apply through the North American service because of something to do with my province.

    Thanks so much.

Thanks so much Tekman. You'd think that, wouldn't you? I did look into it. I used to live in Victoria, have family there... It would make a lot of sense.

However, as Royal Roads has become a for-profit institution the tuition for locals and out of province/country is the same and $70K+.

    Thanks for the note.

If you're open to a thesis-only PhD (as you indicated), most UK and Australian schools will consider supervising your research at a distance, each with varying degrees of residency (or even none). They may not state that explicitly on their websites, but you should ask. Besides, you'd want to develop a relationship with them before proceeding anyway.

Thanks. You are so right. I have only been considering the ones that explicitly state they do. Ironically I emailed a similar question to a Canadian programme that will consider it as long as I come for two six week intensives - but they don't advertise that.

    Thanks again.
