There's so much discussion of MBA and DBA degree programs on this forum that I've taken to looking for them as I surf through various university web sites. I was somewhat surprised to find what might be a new offering (at least I don't remember it being mentioned previously) at the University of Natal in South Africa. You can check them out at the U of N Graduate School of Business site: http://www.gsb.co.za I noticed that they say that exams are to be taken at various sites in SA. They may allow this to be waived, especially if you can present them with an appropriate alternative exam site. I can hear you all saying, "Why go to a South African school for an MBA when there are so many domestic alternatives?" My answer: I don't know, maybe because the whole thing only costs $3,000. BTW, the DBA is done entirely by research. Jack
@ Jack: A DBA be research somehow sounds strange to me. Isn´t the DBA the "practical" Business Doctorate whereas the PhD in Business should be the "theoretical" one? Anyhow, it sounds interesting. Do you have some more facts? Is it really TOTALLY by research (except for the defense of the thesis, of course), or would you have to go to South Africa several times? Is the University GAAP / legitimate? The scanned logo on the website and the website itself look rather "amateurish" to me. Thanx and Greets, Trigger
The University of Natal is certainly a legitimate institution -- and generally one of the top-tier public universities in South Africa. But they are not known for their Business School. The 2000 Financial Mail MBA ranking (reported by MBAinfo.com): Wits University U of Cape Town Unisa Stellenbosh U of Pretoria GIMT/Henley Rand Afrikaans Univ. Bond Univ. U of Potchestroom U of Wales De Montford U Heriot Watt Dimension Data (dunno what this is?) U of Durban Westville Millpark Business School Univ. Southern Queensland
gotcha, Jack! I can remember when there were no black and white TV's. We would gather around the wood stove and listen to the Lone Ranger on the radio that was powered by a hook up to the car battery. You see, we didn't even have electricty.
Tough luck for me... Tough luck for me... Dear Sir I regret we will not be able to assist you with our DBA programme as you have to be resident in SA and from your email I see you are living in Germany. Regards June King for Graduate School of Business
