Ok, last degree change....I promise. This one is for a good reason, though. I have no complaints about the WNMU degree, and if circumstances were different, I would continue the program. I do have an opportunity, however, that compelled me to change my course. I have been accepted into the EdD program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. The program isn't really a distance education program, but the courses are held on weekends 18 times per year, so I will not have to relocate. I'm very excited, and my first class is only a little over a month away!
Good luck, their grad school for education often tops Harvard's on rankings to take the top spot, so it will be interesting to hear whether you think they deserve it!
I certainly hope they do. Apparently the Peabody College has been ranked #1 overall in the US News rankings for schools of education for the last four years. The Higher Education Administration program is currently ranked #5. Of course, I recognize that the rankings are heavily swayed by the PhD programs, not the EdD programs, but fortunately I will have the opportunity to work with some of the same faculty members.
No way. I think the reason I hopped around so much is that I was ultimately unsatisfied. I was settling for the other programs because I didn't think I could get into the kind of program I really wanted. The EdD at Vanderbilt, however, is exactly what I want both in prestige and in format, so I don't see myself changing course in this case.
Overall, yes, but Peabody College isn't as bad for the EdD program. It's $1205 a credit hour, which is quite high, but I did receive a scholarship that will cover 1/3 of the tuition cost. That makes it just over $803 per credit hour, which isn't too bad when you consider that University of Phoenix is $795 per credit hour for EdD programs. That's an extra $24 per class VERY well spent. It is still expensive, but the prestige of Vanderbilt in general and Peabody College in particular and the networking opportunities in the program outweigh the cost in my mind.
