    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

    Just in case anyone is interesting in Australia Higher Education Institution, Deakin University’s Ph.D via research. The reason I am looking up this school because it is accredited by DETC (National Accreditation), and because I am using the Post 9/11 GI Bill; the rule that VA specifies distance learning from a foreign institution must be accredited by the US regional or national accreditation body. So far, I don’t see any distance learning program that is accredited/recognized by CHEA and DoE except Deakin University from DETC database. So, I wrote to Deakin University for more information. Here is goes….

    Dear Deakin University Administrator(s):

    My name is Henry Gorman, a United States citizen. I earned a Bachelor of Science from Troy University, Troy, Alabama; a Master of of Science in Telecommunications from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas (www.smu.edu); and a Master of Professional in Technology Management from Georgetown University, Washington, District of Columbia (www.georetown.edu). I am a former United States Marine, and also the United States Army civilian contractor in Information Technology field. I have a question regarding to your distance learning program. In fact, I am interested in the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) research program in Telecommunications/Management. I could not find any information regarding to research at the distance learning. Would you please provide me further detail whether such as program is offered via distance learning for non-Australian students. If so, what are the requirements such as: tuition, residency, and etc.

    Any further information would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted via personal contact information: ********

    Research ability may be demonstrated in a variety of ways:
    • an Australian Honours degree or equivalent overseas qualification (an undergraduate degree plus an additional year of supervised research). To apply for a research masters degree, the minimum standard for the Honours year is 60%, and to apply for a PhD, the minimum standard for the Honours year is 70%.
    • research Masters’ degree with at least 2/3 of the degree comprising a thesis
    • coursework Masters' degrees or graduate diplomas which includes a research project or thesis of 10,000 to 20,000 words to 70%+ standard, and research methodology units

If the evidence includes publications or reports with several authors, the applicant should describe the contribution they made to the paper. An interview may be requested to discuss this and other matters. The University will assess each case on its merits.
    Note; unfortunately it is not possible to comment on qualifications or publications without full documentation and transcripts, submitted as part of an application. Also, please note that any decision about the standard of research ability is made by the University, not by individual faculty members.
