Hello, I'm looking for a way to find an affordable online basic American Government course (I already know Excelsior at $1,000 and Adams State College at about $600 offer one)..one preferably with an open/rolling enrollment, and completely online...

    Help! Thanks.

Oh, and I need it to be for transferable credit, so accredited as well.

American Public University is great. Easy enrollment, classes start each month, cheap. RA and DETC accredited. No books - books online and included in price for undergrads if I recall correctly. $750 for 3 credits, no enrollment/admission fee. American Government I (there is also II) POLS210 APU Course: POLS210 - American Government I

    Colorado State University-Pueblo > Political Science $450-500

Online Course Catalog - BYU Independent Study about $500

LSU Independent and Distance Learning $350ish

University of Arkansas Independent Study Courses $350ish

LSU and UofA will be the cheapest. My WEB browser is acting up so I couldn't confirm UofA has your course but I suspect they do. CSU doesn't appear to have the exact course but has one that seems to come close...CSU is awesome to deal with as is UofA. Might need a proctored exam or two with any of them. All are RA so transferring shouldn't be an issue.

    Good Luck!

Wow, thank you for all the responses...thank you. I will check them out.

The UofA has the course, but I am waiting to confirm that it could done entirely online...and allow me as a non-enrolled, non-degree student to do so via overseas...

Thank you so much for the great replies! It will take a little time to review your great suggestions. I did some research via DANTES as well, and found that UofA might work (the course does fit for me UAF Correspondence Course Offerings, but I'm not sure how well they may work for me as I am overseas at the moment..

My consideration is also time, as I'd like to finish it as soon as possible. Plus, it is difficult to ship books overseas, so online books are best as well.

I would highly recommend getting a cheap, used American Government textbook from your local community college bookstore, study from that, then take the CLEP American Government exam.

I took it with no preparation whatsoever, and passed by a very comfortable margin; you're looking at less than $200 for the textbook and exam fees.

I would LOVE to be able to take a CLEP exam, however the particular institution to which requires this course does not allow it. I would not even need to buy the textbook nor study one iota to pass that exam I believe. So, I'm trying to find the cheapest and fastest and easiest option.

Many, many thanks for those suggestions! I will check them out. I am still waiting to hear from UofA (yes they have a course that fits what I am looking for) and on whether I could take the course as I am overseas and it might complicate things a bit.

Any other suggestions? It's a big difference for me between $1100 for Excelsior and $400 for LSU or UoA...

    That stinks....some schools will allow you to "test out" of a course, where you can just take the final exam, and get credit if you pass. Ohio University used to offer this option;

So hard to believe that the school won't accept CLEP American Govt. My local university accepted it as a political science course and so did TESC.

Thank you for all the suggestions..I'm down to Adams State College, BYU, and U. of Arkansas. U of Ark. is in the lead at $333 + a $10 textbook via Amazon, assignments via Blackboard...a little more essay and writing-type work, but to save $150-$250...I'm ok with that...
