My new employers is offering me $3k/year for PD. My guess with another $1k from my pocket I should be able to do two graduates courses per year. I am not interested in doing adjunct or teaching for a living, so *aacsb accreditation *is not an issue for me. I am looking for a DBA-accounting similar format to NCU's. Hampton U looks good but there are two one month session *for the first two years for 48 credits, so it does not meet the two courses for $3k per year. Capella's charge per term so it does not meet my criteria. Any ideas?

UNISA (or another SA school) might fit the bill.

If a DETC school will fit the bill, the newly accredited Apollos University has a DBA for a total of $9,000 in tuition. Not sure if they have an accounting concentration.

You can check out Walden University's DBA in Accounting or http://www.waldenu.edu/Degree-Programs/Doctorate/18274.htm. I plan to transfer to Walden from Capella as well because you have option to pay per course. The term tuition only benefit if you take maximum 3 courses per at Capella University. However, with work and family...I don't think you can complete 3 courses per 10-week term.

I like Walden's format for the PHD-Accounting where I can pay for individual courses. It fits into my PD plan. However, I am disappointed that only 9 credits of the 60 credits are for the accounting specialization.

If you are in Canada, you can always claim tax credit for graduate education earned in Canada. If you go for foreign degrees, it is hard to claim the credit as foreign distance degrees are normally not covered.
I learned this after I got rejected my last tax credit claim for my doctorate. I was lucky that was accepted for most of the degree cost but rejected at the end. Revenue Canada actually contacted my school in Australia and verified information and sent me a letter with details. They seem to go for a lot of trouble if you claim big chuncks for your education.

I would suggest looking at the DBA from Athabasca, it is expensive but can get back about 50% (Depending on your income) from your taxes.

If you take the maximum time allowed for the degree (8 years) and use the tax credit, this will mean about 13K from your pocket (assuming 50K for tuition fees).
Also because the degree is Canadian, you will have the highest level of acceptance compared to any low profile American degree.

    RF,

I am looking for a DBA in HR or Management or Leadership at an affordable institution (Less Than 40k USD). You seem to have the eye for such info. Please advise...All suggestions are welcome....

he program is now up to $52,500. I have reviewed the Athabasca DBA program and it does not look like a practitioner degree. Except for the few research courses it looks like a thesis only degree. The fee’s structure does not fit my budget. I am looking to pay for courses in accounting/management then submit expense reports to be reimbursed. While doing my PD, I want to increase my knowledge of accounting and management to an expert level.

I hear you now. You are going to need a program that you pay per course and it is more course based than research based.

I think Walden is the closest thing to this, you are not going to find an accounting program that has so many courses mainly because it would be too expensive for the school to maintain an accounting program like this. Very few people do accounting PhDs.
The main reason for Walden and others to offer accounting doctorates now is because many are getting tebure tracks with Walden and other low profile doctorates because the high demand but this might not last long. I know few business faculties that practically take any PhD in Accounting because there are none available in the market.
The other option for you is to do a Post Masters certificate in Accounting or Advanced Certificate that requires a Masters.

University of New England (Australia) offers a number of DL PhD programs, (including one in accounting). The tuition is about double what you're looking to spend (~6k/year), but I thought I would point it out regardless.

The MBA has been good to online/distance education. Lots of money have been made by everyone. There are now hundreds of online MBAs. Maybe this is rhetorical, but why haven’t the DBA or practitioners PHD become more popular online?

How many ads calling for DBAs do you see in job posters? Even for MBAs, I really don't think a low profile MBA makes a difference unless your Bachelor's is in Arts or other low demand degrees.

I completed a DBA and has only been useful to teach. I have never been offered a job outside education because my DBA.

If you have no intention to work in education, the DBA or PhD from a low profile school makes no sense to me.

It looks like doing a master in accounting best fits with my situation. I did started the MS Accounting at Liberty. My experience with Liberty was a very positive one. If Unisa is still inexpensive in 5 years then I can do that from my pocket but it looks like the MSA is the best choice for me professionally. Thanks for your input.

Have you considered a Post Master's certificate? There are few around as Post MBAs or Advanced Certificates.

I like the idea of doing a post-master certificate/diploma. I never thought about doing PG but I will give it some investigation.
