Has anyone here done any type of vocational trying by distance learning and once completing the program was it adequete? I ran by this idea on a forum with career electricians and they almost all came back with a resounding no..do not do it online.

I notice that there are quite a few programs offered online for electrician training, but I would be wary too. My brother-in-law is an electrician and he reports that the main factor in getting an electrician job is field experience. It is a trade where getting a job all about what you can do and what experience you have, the schooling is just the preliminary requirement. I doubt that an online program would offer that kind of opportunity, however, it is possible that a program may require you to arrange some sort of field experience or apprenticeship before they graduate you. You would be wise to speak with a counselor at a school you are interested in and to interview some local electricians in your area on this subject.

I think your local "technical college" would be an excellent place to start the search. They will usually even help you apprentice than find a job later.
