Whoever thought the education industry wasn’t BIG business?

I would have thought that this was pretty obvious to all. The internet carries so much information that it could be expected to the major educational forum in the future.

The increased efficiency and effectiveness of the technology brings the classroom to the Globe. Universities are now competing globally, not locally, for this market.

I heard a discussion in this country about a surgeon in Sydney operating via robot and technology on a patient in Darwin with medical support in that centre. I don't think that it happened, but it was being mooted to happen. Specialist skills being uploaded to far flung centers when patients cnnot be moved across to facilities. I suspect that the military will do it first because of necessity. They are dropping bombs in Afghanistan from Virginia and other places through the use of drones.

Distance learning is a reality. The question will be the value of the word "degree". Will "degrees" remain? Are universities redundant? Can educational companies compete with specialist training and education products without the necessary baggage that the word degree brings with it? Professional Associations now can produce a cheap no frills product by distance learning that probably will address professional competence more definitively. I think that this could happen very easily in business field.
