I'm not aware of any new careers in education, at least not in the job that I do. Where I see new things going on is in the field of assistive technologies for disabled students. A lot of that is in R&D aspects, so it's more of corporate endeavor.

Recently I read an article on how schools (K-12) are using educational software on lap tops and iPADS to allow students to progress at their own rate. So maybe writing this type of software is an evolving field.

I have taken a few online short courses in various forensic subjects. While I won't question the qualifications of the instructors as practitioners in their fields (most of the time), the content organization and delivery often left something to be desired. I think that someone with skills in content organization and delivery would be an asset in the field of specialty online education. I am referring especially to short courses and continuing education courses. I anticipate this would require special skills in education as well as web delivery and a CD learning format.

This is just my opinion and I have no professional basis for it.
