Masters in International Economic Development

Hi all,

I have been on the hunt for a master's degree along the lines of International Economic Development with a concentration in social justice/human rights.

I've been able to find quite a few Master's in community and economic development that seems to focus on local/national development. I am interested in a degree that focuses on international development and policy issues.

Basically I am looking for a degree somewhere along the lines of global development and social justice. I know St. Johns University has this degree... but it won't work for me.

I would need to go through a distance learning program and would not be able to take a prolonged period of time off work (i.e. I could not take a month off that SJU requires)

Anyone out there have any advice??

I've found a few options but they all seem to call for a month + abroad.

There are several relevant master's degrees from the University of London International Programmes, formally the External School.

 

Thanks Jonathan. That is one I have been looking into.... just wasn't sure of it's credibility/reputation in the field? Seems a bit too easy to get into...? No GRE requirement etc.

I am considering the University of London programmes. I am just a bit concerned what their reputation/credibility is like in the field? And whether these programs will give me the best education possible via distance learning.

 

The UofL is associated with the London School of Economics. There is no degree with ah better reputation or higher credibility in the field of economics.

You won't find a more rigorous course anywhere. If you can handle it, you will have the best education possible.

NB: I dropped out of their undergraduate program in economics. Now that I've taken (at other schools) Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, and am halfway through a semester of Linear Algebra, I think I might just possibly be able to pass the UofL examination for Mathematics I.

The degree I'm looking for is through a different school-- it is more concentrated on the human rights/poverty side of development. It's through the School of Oriental and African Studies... which might not have as good a rep as the school of Economics.

Also, I've heard that the industry standard is for students to study/intern abroad for a certain amount of time. This degree does not require that (which is actually why I am interested).... so I guess I'm wondering if anyone is familrar with this industry and whether this is in fact the international consortium as I've been told?
