    Hello!

My name is Erin, and I'm looking into the Master's program for English at East Carolina University. Has anyone taken online classes here? I read on the website that they use the same syllabus from their face-to-face classes in their online classes, and I really liked that. I've attended IADT Online, and all of the courses there are cookie-cutter with lots of busy work. I don't want a repeat of that type of school.

Also, does anyone have any tips on writing a successful statement of purpose? What are they usually looking for? What should I stay away from in my writing? Any tips for taking the GRE? I've ordered some books on Amazon to help me study for that.

Thank you very much in advance!

Usually the academic institution/college department will tell you what need to be included in the statement of purpose. If they don't specify what needs to be in the statement of purpose. Then I always state clearly the following items:
    - What is my passion about career that relates to the degree I am seeking
    - What is the purpose of earning this degree
    - What am I going to contribute to the society upon receiving my knowledge from this degree
    - Why I am choosing ECU over XCU (usually reputation)

----Always read through your statement to ensure no mistake; especially grammar structure. A technical degree is totally different than an English degree in term of English writing.

----Sorry, I have no experience with GRE exam because I am weak at taking entrance exam. Therefore, I always avoid any degree admission requires GRE score.

I have looked into the program myself. I haven't taken any classes though. As a North Carolinian, I can tell you, ECU is a pretty good school - but not the best in the state.

Also, look closely at the program, I believe that only MA English program that is online is the one that concentrates in World Literature. May be right up your alley, but if you were planning on reading a lot of Bronte or something, you may be disappointed! haha. Anyway, tell me what you decide. Their online programs are attractive, and if I am not mistaken their tuition is quite reasonable. I would say you could do a lot worse than ECU. Good luck!
