Hello everyone! This is my first post on this website. I have been lurking for the last few days trying to get info about affordable online master's degree programs, and everything I've read has led me to my two current favorites: WNMU's M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies program (with concentrations in Psychology and Writing), and Amberton University's M.S. in Family Studies.

Anyway! Amberton's program sounds like it would be a great fit for me in so many ways. It can be done completely online, it's VERY affordable, it's geared toward the adult student (I'm 29 and a stay-at-home mom), and it sounds like practically everyone has only positive things to say about the professors, customer service, and quality of education. However... my main concern about the school is the Christian aspect of it. Not that I have anything against Christians, but I wasn't raised religiously and am not religious to this day, so I'm wondering if/how often Christian ideas will be discussed and/or required of me in my assignments. I had looked into Liberty University too because of the diversity of degrees available and the low cost, but ultimately I had to rule it out because of how much Christian principles are emphasized in their curriculum.

If anyone has any insight into this matter, I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

I completed several course from Amberton at the graduate level. Not one of them contained anything Christian realted. Granted they were all business courses so that may have played a role into it.

You can download the syllabi for each course if you dig around on the website, and I doubt you will find to much Bible "stuff" in there.

During course discussions someone might bring up Christian thought or morals, but the way I look at it's just more diversity towards education-which is something most people want anyway.

Amberton, IMHO, is one of the more underrated schools with DL offerings.

Thanks for your reply! I've looked at some of the syllabi like you suggested, and they don't really seem too heavily Christian-oriented. I wouldn't mind if someone were to bring up a Christian idea in a discussion; in fact, I'd actually be interested in what they have to say, because it would be good for me to hear about the Christian perspective since the majority of Americans are Christian. I just wouldn't want to be required to write about topics from a Christian perspective in my own assignments, because I'm honestly not too familiar with the teachings of Christianity, and it would be insincere for me to pretend that I know what I'm talking about.

I'm surprised Amberton hasn't been "discovered" by more people yet... it seems like a great school at a very affordable price!
