Hello, folks! A friend of mine who has to earn his master's degree by the end of next year (2013) to get promoted is asking me if I know of any low-cost ($250-$400/unit) business/management/leadership master's programs whose courses require papers instead of exams. His work days include Saturdays and therefore can't go to a library (or have someone in the office arrange to be a proctor), plus he is creeped out by the idea of someone watching him on camera while taking exams, so he prefers a program that requires mainly graduate papers for course requirements.

Off the top of my head, I know that APUS' grad programs are heavy on paper-writing (no exams, as far as I know -- please correct me if I'm wrong), require 36 units (that should be fast enough, though 30-unit programs might be better for him), and are in the $300/unit range. I know that Chadron State College is cheap ($250/unit), but I don't know if they require exams, so I can't recommend it. RA is preferred, but he's not ruling out NA programs (I think he's checking out Aspen, Ashworth, and Columbia Southern, too).

Can you suggest other programs that might meet his needs? Thank you very much!

    Hi -

We had a thread seven years ago - same topic. here it is: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/19354-mba-no-exams.html

TUI (now Trident), Grand Canyon University and University of Liverpool were mentioned. I have no idea if the same rules still apply. Tell your friend not to bother with Ashworth. He can get RA for a bit less money - plus there are exams.

BTW - I think 36 credits is the minimum. Don't know any MBA programs with less. Least expensive RA program I know of is AMBERTON - about $700 for 3-credit course - but I'm sure it isn't exam free. As you said, Chadron is reasonable cost - so is Wayne State. Don't think either is exam-free.

Perhaps your friend could arrange evening exams. Years and years ago, I wrote proctored evening exams here in Canada. A local high school teacher proctored them regularly and I believe the school board was paid for the use of premises and the teacher for his time. Many schools are reasonably flexible about who can be a proctor.

There are several with only 30 credit hour requirements, including Eastern New Mexico University (ACBSP accredited) and University of Louisiana at Monroe (AACSB accredited). However, in both cases, they require that a student have extensive undergraduate training in business (about 8 or 10 courses, IIRC).

BTW - if your friend is checking NA schools, I believe W.H. Taft U. has a super-low bargain on tuition for MBA - something like $4,200 - less than 5K, anyway. DETC school. And thanks for the correction, Mcjon77. I appreciate it.

    Guys, i need your advice:

The Ministry of Higher Education in my country only accepts the Online Degree Credentials from only those universities, which offer both modes (Oncampus and Online) of programme and their degrees issued in both modes are indistinguishable.

Keeping this in view, could you please recommend me a MBA or MEd program around $5500, which could satisfy the above mentioned conditions.

Morningside College MA Professional Educator might work for you. MAT Professional Educator 6 classes taken 2 per semester in education plus 18 credits from VESI Graduate Education Educational Partners Would make for a quick and very inexpensive Masters. I don't NEED a Masters in Education...but still toy with the idea of this program just based on its novel approach (cheap, self paced VESI courses on interesting topics) and cost. Whole program likely under $5K

Thanks for the info. What about Western New Mexico University.

Are there any affordable programs for International Students ?

WNMU has the MAIS, Eastern New Mexico has an MBA, they are only super affordable if you go part time. If your trying to finish quickly the savings isn't there.

Can't say I blame folks for looking at leadership and management degrees instead of MBA programs. . . too many MBAs out there, and in some areas/organizations the only MBAs that count come from either highly prestigious programs or from well-regarded local B&Ms.
