I am trying to get my hands on an old syllabus for HIST 534 (Russia and the Soviet Union) if anyone has one they would be willing to send me. Any information on Professor Kreis at AMU would also be greatly appreciated. HIST 645 is not in the AMU library.

This is my first semester at AMU (beginning in February) and I am just trying to get a feel for what is in store.

Just PM me with info if you are willing.

    Thanks

There are a few of us here who teach for AMU. Like all online programs, there is more work than on-ground, but it is at your convenience, which is a big plus. If you are working, one course is all that you should take at any one time. Your classes are eight weeks long, and you will have around 10-20 classmates, from all over the world. I had a South African student in one of my recent classes. (I had to laugh to myself here, because I was trying to get into a South African school and he was enrolled in a US University).

Each week consists of a short paper or project, and a discussion forum, which is where students learn from each other. The APA format is required here (as in most places, so learn this format if you have not done so already). Classes are conducted in an asynchronous mode, so you may post your work at any time within the class parameters for the week. I like to have the first post of the discussion question (DQ) by Friday, and the DQ reply due by Sunday. The papers are due Sunday. You are expected to write a credible short paper, with references. Papers are not hard to do, once you get into the swing of things.

The classes are conducted in the Sakai classware, which is OK. Make sure that you avail yourself of the outstanding library and student forum. In the library, there are also self help opportunities and even tutorial services. Each discipline has a Portal that contains TONS of useful information. The school does care about its students, and the program is set up for you to succeed. If you are deployed, there are considerations that can be made for your environmental challenges.

Good luck! I am sure that you will do just fine.

Just a clarification - The history classes at AMU/APU are 16 weeks long and use Chicago Style. The classes are great! I'm thinking about taking a few more through them before I dive into a PhD.
