    A question of ethics.

Naturally, I would like to gain as much credit for prior experience as possible, in a legitimate manner.

My question is, would it be unethical for me to hire a person who is an experience writer, perhaps with direct experience on life experience portfolios, to do the actual physical construction of the portfolio, using my experience.

Is this cheating-? I would use my personal experience, and the "hired gun" would construct the portfolio into a presentable document, more likely to be granted the credit.

    Thanks in advance

The professional ethicist in our family (Marina Bear, Ph.D. in ethics, Vanderbilt U), has no problem at all with this; she likens it to hiring a professional resume-writing service. You've done the work. The only exception would be if the school to whom you submit it specifically requires that you do your own write-up, making that a part of the process. (I am not aware of any who do, but they may exist.)

  3. I'd concur with Marina (though I am only an amateur ethicist) -- assuming that the writer wrote an accurate assessment.

However, I'd add that you might learn more if you hired a writer/editor to assist you rather than doing it for you. A few years back, I edited dissertation chapters for a couple of friends. They gave me the chapters, I marked them up and wrote suggestions, and then met them for coffee and discussion. They did the rewriting, as they knew the subject matter and their committee's requirements better than I -- but I could tell them when they were rambling or obfuscating.
