    Hello, everyone!

Over the next couple of years, the high school where I teach is looking to expand their foreign language department by hiring another instructor for the French program and starting an Italian program. While I have done some minor independent study in Italian (mostly reading of elementary texts) and took one year of French at a community college, I have been thinking that it wouldn't hurt to do further studies in either (or both) languages so as to better my resume and possibly even teach them at my current school someday.

I have seen a number of programs that actually involve both languages, but the majority seem to be in the UK (such as at the University of London, the University of Leeds, etc.). I do not get the impression that any of them are available by distance learning either.

With that in mind, can anyone recommend any distance-learning programs for either (or both) languages? I looked into the languages offered at UNISA a couple months back, and my impression was that most of the programs were being discontinued or majorly downsized (only offering one or two courses, not entire degrees). If South African or Asian programs are available, I would not be opposed to them (as I am definitely on a budget).

Thank you for any suggestions you can offer!

P.S. I have already been studying a number of other Western European languages and hold a B.A. in two of these, so I realise that I cannot learn either language overnight. I could do some independent study of both French and Italian but neither would lead to college credits that I might eventually need to apply to teach in my state.
