It's delightfully inexpensive, which is a good thing. It may not be the most prestigious school in the world, but it's regionally accredited, and since it's a state school few employers will think anything bad about it. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them for more information.

Here is a link to PSC http://www.peru.edu/distanceeducation/ I know they do some joint programs with Chadron State College and another Nebraska School. Again its a state college and is regionally accredited. Have you looked at the Sociology/Social Science degree at Colorado State U-Pueblo? Colorado State University-Pueblo > Undergraduate Degree Program If that would work for you I believe it's a little better price wise (Around $450/3 cr) and I can vouch for the excellent customer service through their Con Ed Dept who administers the program.

Perhaps Colorado State sounds a little better than Peru State. I definitely don't think Nebraska when you say "Peru State". :)

:iagree: I have a friend of mine that got his masters degree from this school. He says he loved the school, loved the classes, and loved the price point, he had a wonderful experience. The only downside, if any, is the name. Most people think that he went to Peru :sombrero:, the country, to study for his masters degree. So if you don't mind the name, it is a great little school. :fing02:

I guess that most of the people who have been degreeinfo members for a while have heard of Peru State because they have a nice little set of programs and very reasobable prices. I also guess that if you live in that part of the world it would be a recognizable name. Otherwise I think that a lot of people just don't think it's important because it's an RA state school and if some HR person has to look it up in a book, well it's still a positive check mark in the box.

Many school name changes seem pointless, but this seems like one case where a new name might genuinely improve a school's marketability.

"Peru State College" is part of the "Nebraska State College System".
So how about "Nebraska State College at Peru" ?
Or what if the Peru part was dropped entirely, and the school became "Southern Nebraska State College" ?

Another school in the Nebraska State College System is "Wayne State College".
Seems like a name change would benefit them as well -- they must be constantly confused with "Wayne State University" in Michigan.

Massachusetts missed what I thought was a golden opportunity when they recently re-named some state colleges as universities. Instead of "Worcester State University", they shoud (IMO) named it "Massachusetts State University-Worcester".

Does anyone have any info on acceptance of NA credits taken by Peru State? According to the PSC website it will accept RA credits but mentions nothing about USDOE/CHEA/NA credits. I have some credits from Penn Foster that are ace reviewed that I may want to transfer to PSC someday. Of course I'll contact PSC directly to confirm, just wondering if anyone had any war stories to tell.

I completed a BS in accounting through PSC (see signature line). It's a fine school. It'll get the job done without breaking the bank.

And hey, what's not to like about a school that has Zombies....

If a school should experience an infestation of zombies it should not deter the online student. After all, they're not on campus. Aside from the possibility that one of their instructors might get their brains eaten it should not pose a particular problem (adjucts are everywhere).

Peru State sounds a little wonky, not doubt about it, but if it has the program you want to study, and it is cheap, then I say go for it! You may want to look at Colorado though, just to see if it's a better school, or has a better program in the field you want to study. Also, if it's psychology you're after, make sure the teachers at the school you go to have a distinguished track record in research in the field.

It is a great little school - albeit in the middle of the corn fields in Nebraska (I visited in 2009). I took over 100 credits with Peru with the intention of graduating with a double major in both CJ and Psych. However, they have a pretty stringent internship requirement in both of those fields - a 6 credit in CJ and a 3 credit in Psych and at the time I was not able to commit to them as I was working two jobs already. The professors however are great and I had no complaints whatsoever. Email response time was within 24 hours at the most as of a year or so ago. Lots of individual attention from the profs and they usually do a trip to Australia every other year for the CJ majors. Again, I can't say enough positive things about them. The name is ok, at least it is a state designated school instead of something like Peru College, that would really confuse people. I ended up transferring everything to Excelsior and it easily met the requirements for their BS in Liberal Studies with a dual concentration.
@ Sideman - RE: NA Credits - Although I did not try, they said I could have transferred in my Associates from Ashworth College with no issues as long as it was accredited by a body recognized by the DOE. If your Penn Foster credits are ACE they should have no issue at all with taking them as there used to be a blurb up on their website that stated that they adhered to ACE credit recommendations when evaluating certain transfer credits. They do also have a portfolio class for experiential learning where you can pick up a few credits.

Possibly a better overall sounding name but the same tuition pricing as Peru State College … Wayne State College (also Nebraska):

    WSC | Cost | Tuition & Fees
