Can anyone fill me in on course requirements at AMU? I am planning on pursuing a Masters in Military History from AMU, but I would love to be able to take a look at a syllabus for a graduate course at AMU or if someone could just post a course workload for that would be great. I currently teach and would be looking at taking 2 courses per 16 week term

Again, any info on the program or particular course would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a current student there in American History, finishing up my last classes this semester. If you post specific questions here, I'll do my best to answer them. Average course workload for a class is going to be maybe reading 1000 pages, 6 weeks of forum discussion posts (original post and multiple followups each time), a shorter 6-10 page paper, research paper proposal and a longer 15-20 page final paper. Each class is slightly different but that should give you an idea. Expect around 10-12 hours a week of work per class including all the reading, videos, etc.

As for the overall program, I really enjoyed all my classes. Good professors and worthwhile assignments. I've learned a great deal by taking this program which was my original goal.

I am taking the following starting in February:

HIST 645-Russia in the Soviet Union. Professor John Kreis
MILH 510-Studies in U.S. Military History. Professor Don Sine

Are the assignments the same for these two professors (if you have had either one)? Would you be willing to send me any syllabi via e-mail that you might have (I can PM my e-mail to you)? Are the book lists that are posted on the AMU website pretty accurate or should I contact the professor directly?

    Thanks for the reply

Sorry about that SurfDoctor. I should have read that when I noticed that my post did not appear. Will not happen again.

PM me your email address and I'll send you the syllabi for those two courses. They will be older ones from a previous semester but shouldn't be too different. Students and Alumni have access to sample syllabi in the library. Also, if you email [email protected] with the course numbers and when you are taking them, they will respond with the accurate book list required for those courses specific for your class.
