    In a memo from the Office of the President dated March 5, 2002, addressed to the CSUDH Community, President James E. Lyons, Sr. announced the following:

    I am delighted to share the good news with you. We have received official confirmation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) that our accreditation has been reaffirmed! I congratulate all members of the University community--students, faculty, staff, and administrators--for the ability to sustain their dedication and effort, and the will to work together to accomplish this major goal.

    The letter from Ralph Wolff, the Executive Director of WASC, was very complimentary, containing references to "substantial and sustained progress," "a new and effective budget allocation process developed and implemented," and "The University is to be commended for this progress and for addressing so effectively the serious issues cited by the Commission." I add my heartfelt commendations to those of the Executive Director.

    We will savor this good news for a few days, but then we shall have to begin work together on addressing the new WASC standards and insuring that we will be prepared for our next visits under those new standards in 2006 and 2007.

    I look forward to working with the University community to continue our progress. Academic excellence, student success, and institutional effectiveness will be the focus for our future. If we work together, I am sure that when WASC next returns, they will once again give us a ringing endorsement!

    Does CSUDH have an online MA in Counseling or Psychology? Or, any MA level courses in Psychology with a PSY prefix? Thanks,

    I don't know that CSUDH does, but CSU-Chico offers an online M.A. in Behavioral Science that might fit the bill.

    Cheers,

    I would also be interested in knowing details on the "serious issues" referred to in the report.

    Serious issues, etc.

    Sorry to be so long in getting back to this, but as any HUX student should be able to tell you, we've just started the Spring cycle for Graduate Studies review and it's been nuts here.

    Insofar as I can determine, the WASC areas of concern centered around:

    --lack of leadership consistancy (e.g., high administrative turnover rate);

    --outcomes assessment for student learning;

    --inadequate library, computing, and other information and learning resources;

    --need for additional classroom space; and

    --student success and satisfaction.

    More information can be found about the various stages of the WASC assessment at:

    http://change.csudh.edu/

    Please note these issues were concering campus matters and not of direct impact on the HUX program. We undergo a separate review process and have been found to meet or exceed all requirements to which our program is expected to adhere as an accredited master's program within an RA university.
