You can expect this to be true at many US universities, not just US Davis. More foreign students come to the US from China than from any other country.

China actually was the leading source of foreign students to the US as as early as 1999 -2002. They were then displaced by India, but have now regained the lead. So China has been #1 or #2 nationwide for years.

I'm sitting in a Canadian Community College as we speak. Most frequently heard foreign languages in the halls, caf's, lounges and computer labs - Chinese, Hindi and other Indian languages, Urdu, Arabic, Russian - in roughly that order. Sometimes it seems that English is about fourth - but that's likely an illusion. The signs are still in English and so are classes! :)

When I was a chemistry student at Florida State University on the late 1980s we had a joke. Stand outside the chemistry department and yell "Chen". Half the students in the department would come running and say "who, me?" Then the other half came running.

As far as it goes, I was friends with several Asian students. They're just people.

I think most of the Indians now either go to Australia to study or stay back in india due to booming economy.

I work in a school full of students from India. More Chinese here doesn't necessarily mean fewer Indians.
