What colleges/universities offer a high-quality, accredited DL (totally on-line - no residency requirement) Masters program in history? I have an M.A. in public affairs from the Univ. of Iowa and taught in community colleges years ago. When I retire from the federal government in two years I'd like to teach history in a community college....Ideas?? Thanks!

A few options that spring to mind:

California State University, Dominguez Hills offers an M.A. in Humanities with optional specialization in history, with no upper credit limit. An 18 sh or greater concentration in history should be sufficient to meet state community college licensure requirements, in states where such licenses are available. The program is done entirely by correspondence, although a few classes are now available online as well. No residency. (Disclaimer: I'm biased, having gone through this program myself; it was a wonderful experience.)

Lesley University also offers an individualized M.A. program completely online, with no required residency.

Excelsior College offers an M.A. in Liberal Studies that can be tailored to history. No residency is required.

For an actual M.A. in History, the best places to look are all overseas; some Australian schools offer completely nonresident online programs along these lines (Charles Sturt University springs to mind), as does the Open Learning University of South Africa.

Other folks may have suggestions to make.

    Good luck!

No big deal Tom, but the name hasn't been changed to OLUSA yet and depending on how things go in court, it may never be changed to OLUSA.

    MA Military History

DETC-accredited American Military University <www.amunet.edu> offers MA degrees in various areas of American military history. As far as I can tell, they are not regionally accredited yet. You may wish to search the list archives for feedback on the school.
    Good luck!

You may want to consider SHSU. They offer a online MA in History. One of their stated purposes of the degree is to prepare people for teaching in junior colleges or community colleges.
