What to highlight on a resume for graduate school?

I am applying to a graduate program. The school recommended that I send a resume as part of the application. I have experience writing CVs for jobs, but have never written one for a school application. I want to highlight relevant experience, education, and skills, but I also don't want to annoy the admissions office with too much information.

I have attended many schools for my undergraduate universities, some related to my undergraduate major, some related to my future graduate major. Even just listing the names and locations of the schools takes up half a page and the significant ones (like my BA) get hidden in the names. Must I list them all or can I show only those relevant to my studies now?

Should I give short descriptions of my studies under each program (i.e. key subjects that are relevant to the degree I will apply for), or let the admissions officers search for this information within my transcripts?

Should I list basic computer skills (word processing; typing speed; OS-familiarity; knowledge of research tools) or let them assume I have these skills?

Can I run it long (as with academic CVs) or is it best to keep it under the 1-page resume limit used in the American workplace?

This is a great question that I'm sure many are hazy on. I too eagerly await an answer but not just for American schools. What are the UK, Australian and EU general resume requirements ??

One thing I learned is to never assume. The "one-page limit" is a misconception. You can have a resume that goes over one page, but it needs to be relevant to the position/program you are applying for. If you took an extension course on raising baby ducks, it is not necessary to list that, unless your grad program has something to do with baby ducks.
