I decided that Robyn's heart was in the right place and so rather than delete her thread and ban her for violating the TOS (advertising), I decided to heavily edit her post and let it run. You can contact her via PM. Hopefully she will become a contributing member of our board. Finally, I wanted to point out that Lesley is located in Cambridge, not Boston, a fact that is only important if you live in Boston or Cambridge.

Thank you. Also, I am not here for Lesley only. I am a certified teacher in Illinois (K-9) and ESL. I am also an Academic Advisor, being the first with National Louis University. I worked with over 1500+ students in the M.Ed./ESL program.

If you have any questions in regard to career and/or logistical questions about becoming a teacher or an ESL teacher, please feel free to contact me.

    Best,
    Robyn

It is not good here in Chicago either (public, private or even within higher ed). However, ESL/Bilingual is a growing need pretty much throughout Illinois. By 2014, the state is mandating all early childhood teachers to hold either an ESL and/or Bilingual endorsement. I would not advise the younger population to go into teaching at this time unless they lived in a very high needs area, and were planning to focus on those needs specifically.

People should know that in the Boston/Cambridge area Lesley enjoys a good reputation. I know about it in three ways. A friend of mine has a Masters in Expressive Therapy (Movement) from Lesley. She works as a movement therapist in a rehab facility. Also, as a sideline she works with trial attorneys during the jury selection process, reading body language. She's better than a lie detector. Also, on this board we talk about their self-designed degree programs from time to time. Finally, they have a low-residency MFA - Creative Writing degree program that I've looked at. Very attractive (except the price). Robyn - do you think you could do anything about the prices?:grumble:

From the website: "The college also expanded its offerings to include doctoral degree programs and officially became a university in 2000."

I have to admit, they do have some really unique endorsement programs (extra teaching certifications), that I had never heard of before here in Illinois.

Lesley University was started by two faculty of Goddard College in VT, which is another well respected school in New England that was started by a student of John Dewey. Goddard is now currently 100% low-residency (DE), and allows it's students to essentially build their own degree.

Is Lesley still women only at the undergrad level? I do know that it's grad programs are co-ed, and it is a well-respected school for education and counseling programs. It would be a good one to promote on DI for sure.

I was told that it is now all co-ed. I have never seen a school with such a mix of unique programs such as Lesley. They have some really interesting programs. There is also an entire program dedicated for students with special needs, very special.

    Hi!
I have noticed many views on this thread. Please don't forget that Kismet stated it was okay to send me questions via a private message. Also, again, if you have any questions in regard to teaching, ESL, etc., I am welcoming all questions.
