Need Some Advice

I graduated from Florida Metropolitan University (Non-RA), which is accredited by Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees. However, Nova Southeastern University had an articulation agreement with the said school. As a result, I enrolled into Nova and I successfully completed my Master's in Public Administration.

My credentials have never been questioned. Although, I have been accepted by both Touro and Argosy to pursue my PhD/DBA, I am concern that my Bachelor’s Degree will be an issue down the road when I attempt to pursue a tenure position at either at a college/university.

    My questions are as follows:

Should I consider redoing my Bachelor’s Degree at a Regionally Accredited College/University in an effort to correct the accreditation issue?

Should I be concern at all since I do have a Master’s that is RA and I am pursuing a RA PhD/DBA program?

    Thanks
    Tom

    • If you have been accepted by a regionally accredited doctoral program, then go for it!
    • I didn't know that Florida Metropolitian University was not RA. Is it a candidate for RA? If that is the case, then your problems are solved post haste. I would think that they are seeking RA?

    • In your case, I would not go backwards (in pursuit of a RA bachelors degree). Go forwards and the past will take care of itself.
    • It's great that you completed a RA masters degree at Nova! :D Now go forwards to the doctoral program of your choice!

me again Thanks for such a quick response!!!

As far as I know, FMU is not seeking RA status at this time, unless someone knows otherwise.

Why don't you plant the idea at FMU of them seeking RA status? It's a noble goal that would increase their enrollment. How could they say no?

Maybe someone with faculty experience can chime in here. My gut level feeling is that if your M.A. is RA & you get an RA doctorate you should be okay. Faculty positions (non adjunct) at colleges & Universities are very, very hard to come by. So, having an Argosy Ph.D. may or may not get you far with the prejudice against DL programs anyway. Touro might work because it does have a mortar campus but IIRC it is not necessarily a top tier school. For issues surrounding that you may want to look at NOVA threads.

I would put my energy into earning my doctorate. Worry about the B.A. later. You can always whip one out in 4 weeks at the big 3 :D

Dr. Russell had similar concerns and later redid his B.A. His was not accredited. If yours was accredited by a recognized agency I would not worry about it.

    Best of luck!

North and me again, thank you both for your input. It would be interesting to hear from the others in regards to this issue since there might be members in this forum with same/similar situation.

    Thanks
    Tom.
