Taking certification courses at Penn-Foster online

I am looking to get certified in medical billing and coding and Penn-Foster online has a very affordable program. After completing the program I would be eligible to take the certification exam. Is this a good idea? I have been working in the medical insurance field for a few years but I need this certification to increase my earning potential. I need some opinions on this.
