Expected course load from Indian schools?

In the US, most teachers give this rule of thumb for estimating workload:

    1) On campus classes: one should expect to have about 3 hours in the classroom and about 9 hours of homework per week for a 3-credit course. Over an 18-week semester, that amounts to 216 hours of work.

    2) Distance learning classes: one should expect 12 hours of homework per week for a 3-credit course.

What amount of time should I expect to devote to a 3-credit, graduate level, distance-based course from India? Can anyone give a rule of thumb?

It has only been in that last few weeks that we've seen a bit of a spike in interest in these schools. I do not believe that any of our members are actually enrolled in any of the Indian universities. If I am wrong then I think we could come up with a whole bunch of questions, starting with yours.

I graduated from an Indian University (not DL) in Engineering. Here are some general pointers, they should apply equally for DL as well as regular courses:
    - There is no credit system in India (in general).
    - For each course, there will be an end-of-course exam (or the final exam).
    - Exams are usually conducted twice a year.
    - Marks are awarded (usually) against a scale of 100 marks.
    - Passing mark is usually at 40%
    - Your grade is solely dependent on the marks you get.

So, if you take a course (equivalent o US 3-credit course), study for it in a day and pass the exam, that's all the time you need.

Again, please take this as a general guideline.
