A new semester has begun at USQ, and I am taking three classes towards my bachelor's degree, all three being core classes: Communication and Scholarship Introduction to Computing (funny as I am a network engineer) Organisational Behaviour and Management I know we have a USQ DBA student on this board, but are there any USQ bachelor degree students on here besides myself? Time to open my books, Christian
Personal amusement and a strong connection to Australia are my two reasons. A degree will not help me advance or make more of a salary in my industry so time speed is not a factor in pursuing my degree. Christian
Christian, I find it interesting that you are taking this elementary class, for which I would think you should clearly be able to get an exemption. In my own interactions with USQ, I found the administrative staff to be very responsive and helpful, but I found myself completely stymied when I tried to get advice from the academic staff in the Faculty of Sciences about exemptions from prerequisites and the like. In fact I generally received no response at all -- even when I precisely followed the recommendations of the administrative staff concerning who to contact (and how to go about it). Very frustrating. In any case, as a result I withdrew my enrollment (just yesterday) and so I am now not a fellow student with you at USQ.
Re: Re: New USQ Semester Has Begun I would formally had thought so myself. But, after learning all I could about network engineering and project management, the best, single subject I ever learned was basic computing applications such as this Introduction to Computing course I am taking. What I learned in such a course was how to use applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to such an advanced level that I was able to make all my diagrams, reports, statements of work, etc. look so awesome for my managers that it actually opened more professional doors for me than if I hadn't taken the course. In this particular instance, I will be learning a new application which I heard just today I will be expected to be an expert on shortly...Access. Yes, my dog can learn Access, but if I can get college credit for it, why not? I can use the structure of a semester to learn the app to my advantage versus self-teaching like I did everything else. This is why I do not object. But, I still find it funny. This is unfortunate, as I also find USQ to be extremely responsive and helpful, and to think this might not always be the case disturbs me as I progress through their programme and wonder what I may one day come up against as I near the end. Sorry to hear that, but I wish you all the best in your future studies wherever they may be. Christian
