A bit of good news considering all of the issues with FP's around here lately - APUS just received a reaffirmation of accreditation from the HLC through the 2020-2021.

There are some good things on the horizon for APUS. The public admin. program is seeking NASPAA and several other programs are seeking programmatic accreditation. The emergency management program was just designated as the top academic program in EM by the International Association of Emergency Managers for 2011.

It is a great place to teach for and offers some very solid programs. Shilling complete.

While other online schools are rushing to raise tuition (just because other online schools have raised theirs), as though the world will end tomorrow wherein, student loans cease to exists for them to go after, APUS has remained consistent in offering good programs at an affordable rate to its students.

The extension of APUS accreditation through 2021 seems more of an affirmation and reward for good practices. It's time for APUS to start offering doctoral degrees, which would enable students to terminate their education affordably without having to take out $70k in student loans to pay for it (like other doctoral degree granting online schools are doing).

APUS is a good online school. Period.

That's all they have to do.

If other FPs would simply stick to this goal and not get themselves dirty, we wouldn't have all this discussions of the validity or lack of in FPs.

Any idea if and when they might offer doctorates?

I was told at a recent faculty meeting in the emergency management program that no new courses or programs were being approved in the budget process for 2012, but that may just be in the School of Public Health and Safety.

APUS appears to be doing a lot of things right. I present at several conferences each year and regularly attend good sessions given by APUS. APUS has some very bright people, such as Phil Ice, that are publishing and building a high degree of professional credibility.
