This actually happened today at work, and I would hesitate to name the school, but it's so ridiculous, I must. One of the supervisors is being advised to pursue a degree in order to keep her supervisory position. She had a brochure from a DETC-accredited school offering an Associate's degree. She was told by HR that this would not qualify for tuition reimbursement, even though the posted company policy says only that the school must be accredited by a recognized accreditor. I offered to call the University Center, a local consortium of 7 universities. I called and spoke to the advisor of the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg, and posed this question: will USCS accept for transfer credits that are earned at a DETC-accredited institution? His response: "what's DETC?"

Take a look at their website, detc.org.

Even though they changed their name roughly ten years ago, there are, I find, still a lot of people who know or think of them as the National Home Study Council.
