Why would you sell a business for $15 million if the profit is $13.8 million for the previous year? It's like selling the goose who laid the golden egg for the price of one golden egg.

My understanding is that revenue != profit, so if their expenses last year were $30 million, then they'd have good reason to sell ...

Ah, good catch. I guess I didn't think that one through.

Revenue is the top line of the income statement and profit is the bottom line of the income statement.

I am working on a PhD at the University of Aberdeen in the UK, and there is more talk of the "for profit" model in the UK. It seems a quite foreign idea to most Brits, but I think with the cap on the price of tuition rising to £9,000, for-profits are seeing an opportunity to move in. I thought it a little humorous when I attended a conference at Cambridge University a few months ago, and Kaplan had an international campus set up in Cambridge.

I believe that is a picture of King's College, Cambridge on the home page. I am a bit surprised they have not gotten into trouble for putting a picture of another school on their page advertising this campus.
If you look through their photo gallery they have pictures of other colleges in Cambridge, all a part of Cambridge University, NOT pictures of their own, somewhat drab office building complex. Seems like false advertising to me.

Ted is at the top of the business barrel and Maniac Craniac is at the bottom.

Although I haven't started my BSBA yet, I do know the difference between revenue and profits (if I didn't, I'm sure the IRS would kindly volunteer their time to educate me quickly). I just had a temporary mental fail, the likes of which the internet keeps archived forever :grumpy:
