Alice, there is a Yahoo! Groups site for NCU learners. They keep all sorts of things in their archives, and they should be able to help you. See nculearner : NCU Learners Message Board. Your student status must be verified.

Alice, as a former PhD student at NCU, I would suggest that you go somewhere else. The NCU program is well-designed and you will receive a good education from attending it. However, after 3 classes there, I came to the conclusion that they just want to pump students through there like cattle and not be bothered with having to interface with them. I'm sure that not all of the mentors are as bad as those I had, but it appears that NCU overloads its mentors to the point that they can't really help students. They are merely paper graders and have time for little else.

I am now in a program that is the polar opposite of the NCU program and enjoying every minute of it. So there are good ones out there!

I would go somewhere else if I were you. I would be happy to PM with you, if you have more questions.

NCU is a little like taking a college chemistry class with your fellow 200 students. You basically have to learn everything on your own.
If you are disciplined in learning on your own then you should do well.
They do have smartthinking tutors available to help with APA formatting and other writing issues. Smartthinking also does statistics tutoring which I will definitely use.

Maybe you should consider doing a CAGS first since it is only 6 classes and if you like the format you can continue on to the PhD.

I tried out NCU by signing up as a non-degree seeking student and taking business ethics. I loved the format and decided to enroll into the MBA program.

    Hi Alice,

I think NCU is an excellent program. I am currently enrolled in my seventh course at the school and I really enjoy it. As with all programs there are some bumps in the road as far as financial aid and administrative stuff but the classes are rewarding. Yes, you do have to be motivated and yes, you do work a lot on your own. But you can learn at your own pace and in general the advisors are always there to help when needed. Statistics is a doozy but it's so worth it. I hope you choose to stick with NCU. If you have any further questions, post them and I'd love to give more specific insight.

    Alice,

Welcome to the board. I completed my PhD from NCU in December so if you have any questions feel free to ask. I do not have the syllabus for those courses - I never took them as they changed the courses required since I went through the program. The course work at NCU is great but the admin side leaves a lot to be desired. Just know you will really be on your own through the program. Best of luck

I completed my Ph.D. in Education: Technology Management a year ago. If I had to do over, I believe I would still choose this school for my Ph.D. Yes, there were bumps in the road, and NCU is far from perfect, but I really like the "independent" learner style whereas others hate it.
