Yes. From another thread, I went to Harrison....then to Great Books lists, which connected me to this school I hadn't heard of.

Just wondered if it's on anyone's radar - grad degrees; fully distance.

Well it's regionally accredited since 1971 ... its law school is also ABA accredited:

U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs

Their MLitt program sounds quite interesting, although their website is a bit confusing. It seems like it's an online/distance program but it doesn't seem to explicitly say it's an online/distance program anywhere?! (At least, not that I saw.)

Oopie....I forgot to post the link in the initial post: The Great Books Honors College

From there, the 'Liberal Arts Institute' tab, then Degree Programs.

Faulkner University is affiliated with the Church of Christ, like Abilene Christian, Lubbock Christian, Harding, Oklahoma Christian, Pepperdine, David Lipscomb, Freed-Hardeman, Ohio Valley, Regions University, Ambridge, Cincinnati Christian, Austin Graduate School of Theology, York College, Rochester College, Nations University (Unaccredited), etc...

“Faulkner University encourages all students identify a local area church of Christ and to establish an affiliation with a congregation. All students are urged to attend the worship services on Sunday (morning and evening), and the midweek services (normally on Wednesday evenings).”

Seems to be: The Great Books Honors College

Tab: Liberal Arts Institute - 3 degrees; all seem to be distance

"All involvement with the Institute will be via distance. We would utilize a range of tools (Blackboard, Wimba, Skype, Gmail, and Google Docs and other such) in attempts to create a virtual learning community...."

Hm, I hadn't heard of the "Master of Letters" (M.Litt.) award before, only of the DLitt from some South African univesities. Do any other schools give a M.Litt. as an award?

Also, are there other Great Books distance learning degrees? I hadn't seen much of this before either! I guess I need to branch out a bit.

Ah, thanks I missed that page. Sounds interesting, although there's not much time to apply ...

I've seen the MLitt offered by schools in the UK as a primarily research degree but don't recall seeing any North American schools offering it.

These degree program from Faulkner are a great find! I searched the site but couldn't see what the tuition fees are.

I wonder if their Doctor of Letters can be done entirely by distance.

What could you do with a Doctor of Letters in Humanities?

    Great Books Honors College

I went to Faulkner for my undergrad degree, and was a member of the Great Books Honors College (at the time it only consisted of undergrad courses).

The M.Litt and the D.Litt programs are completely online programs. As far as accreditation goes, it is program by program. The M.Litt program has completed the process, the D.Litt program is at least in the final stages.

I am not sure what the tuition rate is, but the website says "For more information, including information about tuition and available scholarships, please email [email protected]." I'm sure they can clarify the D.Litt program's accreditation status too.

The graduate programs are fully accredited with regional accreditation (SACS) and can be entirely online and uses bi-weekly conference calls via Skype and collaborative Great Books based work on Blackboard. You should contact Dr Woods at [email protected]

Current students in the program say that it is the most non-distance program that is distance based

Most of the people in the DLitt program are currently teaching on the HS or college level

Thank you for your comments Dr Woods, would you be able to let us know what the tuition costs of the program are? I couldn't find them listed on the website. I know it says to contact you personally but it would probably help to post them here. Thanks!

The tuition for this program is currently $385 per hr and all classes are 3 hr classes.
